How I started wearing glasses…

Standard

It all started some 20 years ago.. when I thot it’d looked cool to wear glasses.. and so I began putting on several friend’s glasses for fun…

Little did i know.. that I would eventually ending up having my own pair … sigh!

But then I discovered contact lenses.. and never looked back. Glasses would only be seen on me when I absolutely have no choice.

When I first heard (many years ago) that my myopia could actually be corrected (permanently) by laser surgery.. i was estatic.

But now that my Mom is actually sponsoring to go for it (Lasik surgery).. and I’m scheduled to have it actually done this afternoon… i’m kinda getting a little anxious. How funny.

So here am I asking for your prayers.. for the Surgeon to have steady hands.. for peace in the heart.. and finally for quick recovery, and minimal side effects.

Thank you…

128 parties in heaven!

Standard

Right now.. there must be about 128 parties (or maybe one HUGE party) in heaven… !

We just received news that 128 students in Anglican High School made decisions for Christ.. after 7Days, our chinese band’s presentation there yesterday afternoon! Praise the Lord! It was a hot, sweltering 35 degrees, and I was soaked through by the end of the show.. but it was worth it!

Wow… I’m humbled to be able to witness God’s mighty stirring in this way.

What’s especially special for some of us was that about 11 years ago.. here at the same stage, about 127 students prayed to received Christ after a performance by our all-volunteer band, ‘Across‘ (of which i was part of).

I still remember us putting up one of our worst shows.. but somehow God had already prepared for these dear ones to make a response to Him.

This morning, we had our v first team meeting with all 16 participants (students + staff/stinters) in ForeRunner’s upcoming Ulimate Road Trip- our music missions project.

After some warm-up, get to know you time, Lil taught 2 classes on ‘Writing your Personal Story’… allowing everyone to ready themselves to be Christ’s ambassadors in Thailand this coming June!

Lil adds: “It was really enjoyable.. didn’t realize how much I missed teaching. It was nice to have babysitters (our kids were in our upstairs office) so that I could really relax, and teach and hang out with the students…”

In Christ Alone

Standard

In Christ alone
I place my trust
And find my glory
in the power of the cross

In every victory
Let it be said of me
My source of strength
My source of hope
Is Christ alone.

Today I came across the lyrics of this song.. and sang it quietly in my heart to the Lord (cos’ I was in a reading room..) And the Lord reminded me of some years back… when he used this song to encourage me; it was when I first took on leadership of our ministry.

I was afraid, and totally inadequate for this task. But God said to me, that I only need to place my trust in him.. and that He desires to demonstrate His strength through my weakness. I still remember the tears that rolled down my cheeks when I sang this song over and over again… tears of joy actually, that God is with me! all the way!

Thank you Jesus for reminding me today again of your love for me!

Mentoring & being mentored…

“Mentoring is a relational experience through which one person empowers another by sharing God-given resources.” – Tim Elmore

Over the course of the past 6 months God has blessed me mentor and friend in the person of Michael Anderson. He came with his family late July in 2004.. and has been working in a ‘consultative’ role in ForeRunner. He’s not only help us sharpen our Mission, Vision & Values.. but has also spent a fair bit of time with me to help me grow as a leader.

I’m grateful to the Lord for His timely provision.. and for opportunities for me to learn and grow from someone who has years of ministry experience.

Also, over the past 1/2 year… I was able to spend time and invest life in 2 guys who are studying at NUS. Both Sam and Joel.. i first met through ForeRunner music missions project. I’ve grown to love them a lot… and have been carving out time to hang out and build into their lives. Each of them are leaders in their own right, and continually desires to grow and be meaningfully used by the Lord.

Again, I’m thankful for how the Lord has blessed me with these meaningful relationships.

Happy Birthday Josh!!

It was fun, crazy time with games and all for the kids at Josh’s first ever McFun party at MacDonald’s. It was a really convenient no mess, no clean-up party.. esp. for the adults.

Not the ‘hosptial’ again…

Standard

Sigh.. my car broke down.. again! it seems like all the cars I’ve own always had some kind of mechanical problems that cost a lotta of $ to repair.

It was Tuesday, Lil was so excited to be able to come into the office with me that afternoon… We had ‘packed’ both Emily and Zach nicely in the car, plus I had 2 other passengers. I started the car and began to drive off… it started to jerk..and jerk and jerk!! Aaaahh!!

Anyway, long story short.. it was finally towed to the car ‘hospital’. Sigh!

And today.. 2 days later…I finally picked up the car. The ignition coil and module was broken. On top of that several other things were ‘broken’ and had to be fixed. Then the regular servicing was also due.. and the timing belt had to be replaced. Suffice to say.. it burned a BIG hole in my pocket.

The ‘God-factor’

Standard

I just finished teaching a class in our Communication package called “The ‘God-factor'”…. Phew! I stayed up till 230am.. preparing it, fine-tuning it.

For some reason, I was feeling really phlegmatic about the whole preparation process.. I first looked at this session, which I was assigned to teach, and the notes didn’t quite click with me.. and I ended up ‘not ‘wanting to work on it, so kept procastinating it.. though I actually had about a month to work on it. =(

Anyway, it went quite well.. thank God!

I learned along the way… and I’m thankful for it. God is good!

Try some ‘buah keluak’… if u dare

Allo… happy Chinese New Year!

This used to be the oh-so-happy-time when u get enriched with goodies & snacks and ‘bombarded’ with ang-pows (red-packets w $ inside).. it was a favourite time of year when I was growing up.

For some reason… it’s fascination got lost on me as i grew older…

But this year has been a rather fun one. We went on a cruise (kindly sponsored by my parents) to Langkawi, Malaysia… had some good family times.. and then did a fair bit of visitations with relatives we haven’t seen in ages.

Joshua & Emily was particularly happy.. munching away at tons & tons of candy and snacks and sweet drinks!

Meanwhile, I had the joy of enjoying some good ol’ buah keluak…
For those not so familiar.. this is the unique Nonya dish, cooked with plenty of spices. It’s some kind of seed, and you eat the insides.. it’s mushy, looks like slushy mud.. but ooooh, it tastes so good. Oh course, it’s acquired taste.

Reaching the Northen Corridor of Singapore…

Standard

Our church, Covenant Evangelical Free Church is trusting God to plant a new church in Woodlands that will reach the northern corridor of Singapore.

There are about 400 churches in Singapore, but only 18 found in the Northern Corridor. The Woodlands region is targeted by the government to be on e of the 5 biggest regional centers in Singapore!

Lil and I feel excited that God has led us to this church for such a time as this.. and we’re trusting God to give whole-heartedly to the building of this church.

In the next 90 days, the church needs to put down a deposit of 6.35million dollars. Would you pray for us as we trust God to claim this land for His name’s sake!
