My route of advance today…

from point A to B (and to C & D eventually)

My route of travel today… It’d be an interesting day.. 2 ministry ‘support’ appointments, 2 important meetings… 3 of them back-to-back. Though it’s gonna be a long day overall… I’m lookin’ forward to what He will do and show me. =)

Great Adventure update…

Standard

Dear friends,

I’m writing with a very quick Great Adventure update…
MinistryNet-PPT-MainWe’re in Turkey right now. Yep, I did write ‘We’. Lillian has joined me on this trip to Antalya, Turkey where we’re part of an Campus Crusade Internet Conference, called MinistryNet Conference. I personally so glad Lil is here with me. I’ve had the privilege, over the past 1/2 year to be part of this global program team that put this conference together, and it’s been exciting the past few days to see all the pieces coming together! I’ve also been doing the MC-ing the past few days, and that’s been fun too. Tomorrow is our last day! =)

Lil has been glad to be part of this trip too. To participate in, and witness all that God is doing in and through the Internet Ministry across the globe. In total, 166 people from 37 countries are represented here.

This has been quite a ‘wild’ season for our ministry. Within the span of these past 1-2 weeks, we’ve had our short film/media team in Egypt training & equipping future film-makers, one of our music teams doing a recce trip in Kolkata, India (to prep for a December concert tour), several of our bands performing at schools, cafes, campus meetings etc. Meanwhile, our Internet Ministry team, CLiCK! is here in Turkey for this conference. I invite to visit our facebook group (and be a fan too!) to find out all that’s been happening.

I’ll hope to write more when I return, and share some exciting things God is doing through your prayers..
Meanwhile, may I request for your prayer support?

Two things are happening concurrently tomorrow evening at two very different venues
One in Singapore, one in Turkey

1. Alternation (our worship band) leading worship at NUS-Arts LM tmr evening   Read more…

2. CLiCK! (particularly Victor and Simon) presenting a Seminar on “Organizing Local Ministry Around An Online Event…”     Read more…

Please keep our teams in prayer.
May the Lord use us for His glory, always!

Simon & Lillian

Now certified… =)

Birkman bannerJust completed a 3-day Birkman Consultants Certification Training. It was not as grueling as the 5-day training I did some 8 years ago, but still quite mentally challenging! We had Bruce E. Gordon, a wonderful man with lots of experience from Mentor Matrix was our trainer. He’s also a good friend of the ministry. He patiently walked us through quite how we can coach a person through the Birkman Method. Thankful I made it. For sure, it made more sense this time round. This tool has helped me many times to understand myself, and how to interact and work more effectively with others. So I’m glad to have a chance to gain a deeper insight into how it works, and how it can help others.

One of the key things I’m reminded again as we started off this training was the emphasis that No one is made better than another person; all of us are made to be unique & different by God.” My good friend, Pat had commented on my Facebook saying that’s very mildly put… author of Myers-Briggs said: “Not one is better than the other, there are jerks in all types.” Hahaha… But very true!!

Anyways, I looking forward to meet with the first person I’ll be officially coaching on 1st week of November. But first, tomorrow I’ll be getting some practice by coaching my wife through her Birkman profile. =)

Welcome (myself) to WordPress!

Standard

wordpress Finally… after thinking and hesitating, considering and procastinating for a long time… I’m finally here at WordPress! Phew…

From Blogspot & Blogger (2004-2007) to Multiply (2007-2009)  … I’m here at last!
At the place where I think has the greatest potential for a ‘lifelong’ blog home  =)

Lookin’ forward to learn how to work it well. So far, I’ve imported my old posts fr Blogger.. but it doesn’t seem to display too good. Oh well…

Taking stock… Growing deep…

Standard

It’s been a while since our last “The Great Adventure” update.
Life has a way of crowding up quickly… and it does take lots of intentional effort to pause and take stock, reflect and continue to grow deep.

A flurry of family, church and ministry stuff has been taking place almost all at once.

Here’s a brief snapshot of what’s been happening with the Seows –

On the Family front:
• Lil’s mom’s fall & subsequent hip replacement
• Lil’s frozen shoulder (more abt this in our next update); a few health scares…
• Em & Zach likes it in kindergarten; Josh is enjoying homeschooling
• Had a short getaway (just Lil & I), celebrated our 13th Wedding Anniversary!

On Work & Ministry front:
• lots of leadership meetings, many changes and challenges; growing my leadership edge etc.
• launch of our 1st ever short-film DVD http://wideangle.sg/
• rapid development in our musical bands, many open doors for ministry; new opportunities in dance, in Internet Ministry etc.

On Church front:
• now leading worship (together!) at our new church plant in Woodlands
• completed a 2-year discipleship course (called IDT); now in a new Cell Group that we love very much

As you would probably guess, this is just a partial snapshot. =)
We’re thankful that as we go through the various adventures and challenges, there were many friends, family members and partners-in-ministry that have been, and continue to journey with us through it all! We thank God for them!

I’m now in LA… here to be part of an Internet conference – www.christianwebconference.com
This is another God-given opportunity for me to grow in my thinking as I give leadership to our ministry in engaging with the lost in the online world.

Besides the conference, I’ll also be spending a extra week there, an extended time to seek God. The past months God has taken me on a journey inward. It has been a very significant journey of growing deep. I want to continue to know Him more. I will be going up to the mountains (to a monastery actually) for a silent retreat.

If you’re read this far, you’re probably interested in what’s going on with the Seows… =) So I’d like to request that you keep me in your prayers, and also for my family back home

One specific urgent prayer request: Zachary and Joshua both caught the flu bug. Both have quite high fever for 1-2 days. It’s suspected H1N1 Influenza. Pray for quick & full recovery. And for Lil to have the strength to care for each of them. Thanks!

Have Thine Own Way

Standard

Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter, I am the clay
Mold me and make me after Thy will
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway.
Fill with thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me!
19th century hymn by Adelaide A.Pollard. (verses 1 & 4)

A delightful surprise… fr my friends

Standard

So blessed by my team today… they surprised me with flowers for my 13th Wedding Anniversary!

I almost didn’t come into office today… cos’ I was WOO (Workin’ Outta Office) for part of the day.But I’m glad I did…

The 1st thing I noticed was that my office door was not locked.. which was kinda strange. Actually, just before that…as I walked past the CreaComm office area, Tina (our new STINTer) said ‘Hi’. She has a big smile… which I thot was rather unusual, but i didn’t think much about it.

As I stepped into the office, I was greeting but a bouquet of flowers, and a big beautiful laminated card! I said ‘Wai seh…’ Then from behind all the folks converged.. and shouted. (forgot what they shouted, but it definitely created a v.celebratory mood!)

Thanks guys..You guys are so thoughtful and so sweet…
Thks also Cly for representing the rest, and for praying for Lil & me in our marriage. (da, I really wish u were there w me too!)

On behalf of Lil, we wanna say a big ‘Thank You!’
Thanks to all the other CC staff who were in the office today, who in one way shared in the gifts (or in the surprise)

Learning and growing as a leader…

Standard

Learning that as a leader… it’s often about wrestling with the tension of:

… being ‘critical’ without being negative
… being honest without being arrogant
… seeing realities, but also seeing potential
… seeing evidence of God’s grace, while mindful of weaknesses
… wanting quality, but also wanting quantity

Tension can be healthy, and even needed. =)

IED@SG: Engaging Our Digital World

IED@SG 2009 is an effort to mobilize the local church to join the worldwide awareness call of Internet Evangelism Day (IED). It’s learning how and what it means to engage our digital world as Christians!

New media is changing us in subtle but profound ways — the way we think, work, live, relate, and it requires us to interpret our faith as individuals and communities, as we work to be the salt and light of Christ to others.

We warmly welcome you to be part of IED@SG and discover new ways of engaging and extending church and ministry in a digital age! Come join us for a series of exciting activities on and offline (Blogging Carnival, Testimony Wall, etc.) and get your church group and friends in on the action too!
